business ranting

January 25, 2007 By: deeva58 Category: My Daughter Nyomi, My Husband Bob Fabien, My Internet Business No Comments →

I found this  pretty cool place to get a free local voicemail number, and it's a community site too  — http://www.privatephone.com/

Meanwhile…things are going well.  Hubby is home, we just had dinner, and Nyomi is playing in her bedroom.
I’m in the middle of a couple of things, like shredding some old bills for one, checking up on financials, and planning for tomorrow's meetings.
I had a meeting today with a few ladies from Atlanta who are working on a web project and wanted to possibly hire me out to do some podcast consulting.  But when I noticed their complete site was done in PHP (and I'm no PHP gal) I couldn't make the appropriate uploads to their site — so we're gonna sit on it a while and wait to see if their current web designer can become their webmaster and be a 3rd party consultant while I handle the marketing and podcast stuff.  Hopefully this will all work out and I can get to work consulting with them soon enough.
I definitely need them :-)  And if the gospel promotion artists who called me last week will sign, that would be off the chain for this month's revenues!
I got my 1st  bill with the phone company today for advertising Faith Media — so, yes…I need the clients.
Pass the word!  www.faith-media.com -  coaching and consulting for podcasting, videocasting, internet marketing, website design, graphics design.
I also keep a business blog called the “eMarketing Technology Blog“.  Check that out for more info on my tech rants.  I try to update it weekly.
Maybe in another post I’ll talk about the podcasts I have going, but i’m in the middle of phasing out at least 2 of those and streamline them.  It’s kind of difficult, though, once you’re already listed in directories (most directories won't let you change info).
‘Kay…it’s time for some spiritual nourishment now.  Enough business for one day.
I’m gonna go see what Fabien is watching and hang out with him a bit.  Then on to the Word.  I’m trying to get through Genesis and my goal was one month but already it’s taken me 3 months and I’m not even half way through.  I have to be more consistent with my studies.  I think what’s happening is that I get stuck on one chapter for too long (I also listen to a podcast that teaches the book of Genesis at the same time as I’m reading), so that’s part of what’s slowing me down…I just want to get  through the Old Testament so I can have a better feel for it than I used to.
Well off I go.

10 minute break…

Today is going well…I’m learning how to balance this business thing so I don’t get too caught up in it and neglect everything else at home.

It’s quite a challenge, though, I must admit. Once I get focused it’s hard to peel my attention away from the computer screen, but life calls. I’ve got laundry to wash, dishes to clean, floors to vacuum, games to play with my daughter…but I just want to get to the point where business doesn’t take all of me and i actually have some mental capacity to deal with it all efficiently without neglecting anything.
That is a challenge, and probably the lesson of a lifetime. I’m just glad I’m balancing life from a home office and not away from home…at least in this season of my life. I can’t say how very grateful I am for this opportunity to work from home. It’s awesome, and a dream come true. Not easy by any means, but worth the sweat.

Currently Nyomi is taking a nap…something she hasn’t been doing in years. It’s about time she take a mid-afternoon nap again. That way, she’ll be well-rested by the time dinner is ready and I get a few more minutes to work.

Good news–Family Impact is working with me on a new project for their coaching service! Will reveal the new website soon.
And more good news- a gospel artist promotion company contacted me regarding possibly producing some videocasts…we’ll see how that goes, and I’ll keep you updated. I just finished up our church website…The Tabernacle.net..

Well little brother is on his way over to pick out some CD’s from my music  collection. He’s into gospel rap now, so this should be interesting (all of my Gospel rap is OLD..from back in ‘99!!) He might be able to find a GRITS CD somewhere…I think I outgrew most of my music from 7 years ago. Now I’m into worship mostly and some soul like Lisa McClendon which I absolutely LOVE. (Got every CD she cut).
Better go now…

New Orleans

January 16, 2007 By: deeva58 Category: Family, Miscellaneous News and Updates No Comments →

So about a month ago we went to New Orleans on business (Fabien’s job)…but I got to tag along and it was fun.
On Sunday we visited Jesse Duplantis’ church and ate at a good Cajun restaurant, though I can’t remember for the life of me what that name of that restaurant is. It was good though…I had shrimp, the 1st time in a long time. Fabien had crawfish ettouffle. Was some good stuff.

We went downtown a couple of times on the riverboat ferry. That was fun and quite different! It was like…whoa…my car is a on a boat. This is weird. It was a different experience.
Over on the side of the river we were downtown, so we traipsed up and down the different streets…Bourbon Street and Canal Street. On one of those streets (I can’t remember which), we stopped by Cafe Beignet for breakfast.

Then we visited a few art galleries, the Imaxx Theatre (which I was surprised was much smaller than the one here in Birmingham, AL), and of course we had to visit the Aquarium of the Americas. Here are some pictures of us there…

Let’s see…oh, and one night we ate at Mother’s Restaurant…it has quite a legacy. Good food, and it was a cold, windy night too, so the food was warm and filling. There’s nothing like Cajun food.

We stayed for 2 weeks so by the time it was over we were ready to come back to T-town. That’s only a quick synopsis of our adventures…we went to so many other places, but I just waited too long to journal it! I should have journaled while I was there.
It was a much-needed trip, though. I didn’t work much while there, and mostly tried to relax and take it easy. It was nice not doing anything business related for a change. I also learned some valuable life lessons while there, about resting in the Lord. I learned about priorities and had 2 weeks to really think about what’s important to me (and what’s not). I came back home with a renewed sense of power…it’s amazing what resting up can do for you and how empowered it can make you feel.

Anyways, we had a great time. Hopefully we’ll get to visit some more places this year.

can’t give up

January 11, 2007 By: deeva58 Category: Christian Faith, My Daughter Nyomi, My Internet Business No Comments →

Okay, I almost gave up on the business full time…but since ‘07 has come in God has just been doing an awesome work.
I may not have to go back to work full time for another company after all…it seems that when I begin to doubt the Lord always wipes it away with His promised Word, assuring me all will be okay.
This week doors have been opening left and right with new clients and opportunities to serve with professional organization committees. Before long I believe I’ll hit the monthly income amount I asked the Lord for 4 years ago. My only job is to keep trusting HIm and quit doubting. He is SO faithful.

So…Nyomi was excited about going to preschool, but that will have to wait awhile. I think the Lord is on to something…doing a great work. We might homeschool or private school after all.
We found a great homeschool co-op that offers the weekly instruction/class time and activities so we’ll have to see how that all plays out.

I am so excited about this year! This is the year for God’s people to excel in business, relationships, career, education…to be prosperous even as our soul prospers!
I really, truly believe this.
