Listen to “3 Steps To Becoming an Entrepreneur Online” on Spreaker.
The moment I had my first daughter, I started to have a strong feeling that I wanted to become an online entrepreneur. Although I knew I’d need to go clock back into my 9-5, I wasn’t looking forward to it because I suddenly had a passion to stay home with my daughter.
I knew that in order to really become an online entrepreneur and stay home with my baby, I was going to have to step into some loosely chartered territories- especially since doing business on the web in 2003 was a fairly new game. I would have to set up a website and begin to learn the skills of online marketing.
Before I could even start doing those things, though, there were three basic steps I’d need to take care of first. If you’re thinking along these lines, I hope these three tips will help you along your journey.
Become an online entrepreneur by discovering your passions and owning them.
The first thing you’ll need to do is discover what you’re good at and what you want to bring to the table. You might not know exactly what kind of business to begin at first, and like me, just have a strong desire to start one.
Over the years I’ve learned to create different products and services for different audiences. The audience on this website is for solopreneurs, another is for those interested in starting a podcast, and I also have my home education blog just for homeschool moms. These are all passions of mine that I’ve learned to develop separately.
Once I got clear on what kind of products and services I wanted to offer, it opened up my world to getting my start online. When you discover what you want to do and what you’re passionate about, you can create a business with it. You’d be amazed at what kind of businesses you can start. Nearly anything passion can be turned into a business!
So, find out what you love and build on your expertise. If you’re not sure about what you’re good at, ask your family and friends, coworkers, and people you are regularly connected with who watch and know you. Your passion is likely something you talk about a lot, so these people closest to you are bound to know what it is and can help you sort it out.
Became an online entrepreneur by overcoming business fears.
So now that you have your business ideas together and you know your passions and what your products and services will be, it’s time to take it to the masses. And this is where things can get a little tough.
If you’re anything like me, you might find yourself tensing up with uncertainty or a bad case of nerves now that your business idea is no longer only in your head, but out there for everyone to see in public spaces. Showing up online can mean becoming a public figure, being seen on camera, being recorded, sharing your thoughts, getting on social media. All of this can lead to some understandable business fears.
The best thing to do is realize that most of this comes with the territory, but you can tweak your business and make it what you want it to be. Show up in the ways that you make you feel most comfortable, and if you hate doing webinars, don’t do them! If you love Instagram but not Facebook, get on Instagram. But just show up, doing what feels comfortable, and this will help you to overcome any business fears you might initially have.
Get into action!
None of these steps to become an online entrepreneur will make a difference unless you put them into action, so that’s my final tip for you.
It’s all about getting organized, knowing your goals, and reverse engineering (working your way backward) to make sure your final goals are accomplished with daily tasks.
It’s very helpful to create monthly, weekly, and daily tasks that keep you on track. You don’t have to be legalistic about it and you can change them up as needed, but having goals puts you on track to success.
Lastly, roll up your sleeves and get to work! There’s nothing that gets us into action better than making the decision to get the work done, then doing the tasks to get them done!
I wish you the best in your route to become an online entrepreneur!
